shockwave -RADIAL PRESSURE-WAVE THERAPY
Shockwave Therapy in Laguna Niguel

Targeted, non-invasive care for persistent tendon, fascia and soft-tissue problems, including chronic sports and overuse injuries.
When the problem just won’t heal.
If a stubborn tendon or soft-tissue injury keeps coming back—or is keeping you from walking, training, playing or doing what you love—Shockwave Therapy may be worth considering.
At Waddell Wellness & Performance, we evaluate what tissue is involved, what you have already tried, and whether targeted Shockwave Therapy may be appropriate for your problem.
WHEN RECOVERY HAS STALLED
You’ve Given It Time. But It Keeps Coming Back.
Maybe you’ve rested it, modified your workouts, stretched it, tried therapy, injections or simply waited for it to settle down.
But if the same tendon or soft-tissue problem keeps returning—or never completely goes away—it may be time to look at the problem differently.
Shockwave Therapy may offer another non-invasive option when recovery has stalled.

REAL PATIENT EXPERIENCE
After More Than a Year of Foot Pain, Eileen Reported Being 95% Pain Free
“Waddell Wellness is the best! I had issues with my foot for over a year. I saw a podiatrist four times, an orthopedic, and had 2 cortisone shots. I had custom made shoe inserts. I could not walk without pain.
I made the best decision ever by going to see Dr. Scott Waddell. He spent time with me and diagnosed the problem. I had electric shock therapy on the foot over a course of a couple of months.
He also recommended a terrific massage therapist.
I am now 95% pain free after a year and a half! Rose petals were thrown in his path.”

Eileen’s Story
Why Eileen’s Story Matters
Eileen had already tried multiple approaches without the improvement she wanted.
Dr. Scott’s evaluation identified the peroneal tendons and Achilles as important contributors to her symptoms—not simply the area where she was feeling the pain.
Her care included targeted Shockwave Therapy, and she later reported being 95% pain free.
Slower Tissue Recovery
Tendons and connective tissues generally remodel more slowly than muscle, especially when the area continues to be irritated or overloaded.
WHY SOME INJURIES BECOME CHRONIC
Why Tendon and Soft-Tissue Problems Can Be So Stubborn
Tendons, fascia and other connective tissues do not always recover as quickly as muscle.
Repetitive loading, previous injury, age-related changes and continued irritation can
gradually overwhelm the tissue’s ability to adapt and repair.
Over time, the problem may become less about a single injury and more about a tissue
that has not fully regained its normal strength, tolerance and resilience.
Reduced Load Tolerance
A chronically irritated tendon may begin reacting to activities that were once easy—walking, running, lifting, swinging a racket or even normal daily movement.
A Recovery Process That Has Stalled
In some chronic soft-tissue problems, normal tissue-remodeling and recovery processes may not be progressing effectively enough to restore normal function.
UNDERSTANDING THE TECHNOLOGY
What Is
Shockwave Therapy / EPAT?
EPAT stands for Extracorporeal Pulse Activation Technology. It is a form of radial pressure-wave therapy that delivers mechanical energy through a handheld applicator into targeted muscles, tendons, fascia and other soft tissues.
At Waddell Wellness, we use the STORZ Medical D-ACTOR 200 system. Treatment can be customized using different applicators, pressure settings and treatment parameters based on the tissue involved, the location of the problem and how the patient responds.

HOW SHOCKWAVE MAY HELP YOU
If a Chronic Injury Is Holding
You Back, Shockwave Therapy
May Be Worth Considering
For persistent tendon, fascia and soft-tissue problems that haven’t improved as expected with time, rest or conservative care, Shockwave - radial pressure-wave therapy may provide another non-invasive option. The treatment delivers targeted mechanical energy intended to stimulate biological responses associated with circulation, cellular signaling and tissue remodeling.
Problems We Commonly Evaluate
Persistent plantar fascia and heel pain, Achilles problems, tennis or golfer’s elbow, hamstring tendon injuries, selected shoulder problems, and other chronic sports or overuse injuries.

IS SHOCKWAVE RIGHT FOR YOU?
When Shockwave May Not
Be the Right First Step
Shockwave / EPAT may be appropriate for selected persistent tendon, fascia and soft-tissue problems,
but it is not the right treatment for every condition. The first step is identifying what tissue is actually contributing to the problem and whether radial pressure-wave therapy makes sense.
Many patients come to us with previous X-rays, MRI reports or other imaging, along with a history
of treatments they have already tried. When available, we review that information together
with your history and examination to help determine the most appropriate next step.
If we believe additional imaging, another form of care or referral to an appropriate specialist should
come before Shockwave treatment, we will tell you.
Certain medical conditions and treatment areas may make Shockwave inappropriate or require additional precautions. We review your medical history, imaging and clinical findings before recommending treatment. (See FAQs below for a more complete list of contraindications and precautions.)
Non-Invasive
No injections, incisions or anesthesia are required.
What Does Shockwave / EPAT Treatment Feel Like?
WHAT TO EXPECT
A coupling gel is applied to the treatment area, and a handheld STORZ applicator delivers rapid radial pressure-wave pulses into the targeted tissue. Most patients describe the sensation as rhythmic tapping or pulsing that can become more noticeable over sensitive areas.
Treatment intensity is adjusted throughout the session based on the tissue being treated and your comfort and tolerance. Our goal is to provide an effective mechanical stimulus without simply using the highest setting possible.
Adjusted to You
Treatment intensity can be increased or decreased based on the area being treated and your feedback.
After Treatment
Some patients experience temporary tenderness or soreness in the treated area, similar to what can occur after exercise or deep soft-tissue work.
